European Union: 122.8% anti-dumping duty on Chinese phosphorous acid
The European Commission imposed, through an Implementing Regulation of 17 March 2026, a definitive anti-dumping duty of up to 122.8% on imports of phosphorous acid (CN code 2811 19 80) originating in China, with definitive collection of the provisional amounts already secured by importers.

Phosphorous acid, used notably in water treatment, detergents, flame retardants and certain animal feed inputs, has been subject, since 17 March 2026, to a definitive European Union anti-dumping duty against Chinese exporting producers, following an investigation that found sales below the actual cost of production.
The rate of this duty, which varies depending on the exporting producer identified, can reach 122.8% of the goods' customs value. The provisional amounts already secured by importers during the investigation were definitively collected on that same date.
This case is not an isolated one: in the first half of 2026, the Commission imposed or extended several anti-dumping or countervailing duties against Chinese products, including high-pressure seamless steel cylinders, steel wheels and 1,4-butanediol, a sign of the Union stepping up trade defence proceedings in response to Chinese industrial overcapacity.
For an importer, these duties are added to the normal customs duty and VAT, and are calculated on the customs value of the goods at the time of their entry into the Union, regardless of the final destination country among the 27 Member States.

For a client buying processed chemical products in China, intended for water treatment, detergents, animal feed or flame retardancy, it is essential to check, before signing a contract, whether the goods' CN code appears on a list of anti-dumping or countervailing duties in force: an additional rate of over 100% of the FOB price can turn a profitable purchase into a loss-making one. Sorva checks the exact tariff classification and the real origin of the goods with the supplier before any order, to avoid an unpleasant surprise at the time of clearance in the Union.
