Guangzhou Wholesale Markets: Baima, Shisanhang, Zhongda by Sector

Guangzhou hosts 508 specialised wholesale markets, bringing together about 160,000 traders, according to the municipality's official portal in April 2026. In 2025, these markets welcomed more than 20 million foreign buyers, and the value of their exports grew by 39.5% to reach 10.95 billion yuan. This volume places Guangzhou among China's major wholesale market hubs, alongside Yiwu and Shenzhen.

Unlike Yiwu, where most trade is concentrated in a single giant complex, Guangzhou spreads its markets across districts and sectors: clothing near the central railway station and in Tianhe, leather in Yuexiu, fabric near Sun Yat-sen University, toys on Yide Road, cosmetics in Yuexiu, near Sanyuanli, electronics around Xidi'er Road, between Liwan and Yuexiu. A buyer looking for a single sector can head straight for the corresponding district.

On 8 April 2026, the municipality announced a three-year plan to make these markets more accessible to foreign buyers: multilingual assistance centres, wider acceptance of foreign bank cards, simplified customs procedures, and ten bus lines linking the Canton Fair complex to the wholesale markets during the fair.

Baima Clothing Wholesale Market, opened in 1993 in Yuexiu, right next to Guangzhou railway station, remains the reference point for mid-to-high-end women's clothing. The building spreads across 8 levels of wholesale shops, with floors 1, 4 and 5 concentrating the most upmarket collections. It opens from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Shops there most often accept 3 to 5 pieces per model, colours or sizes mixed, with a single piece charged at retail price.

Shahe Clothes Wholesale Market, in Tianhe, targets entry-level clothing, with a wide choice of jeans. Its distinctive feature: 5:00am to 11:00am on weekdays, 5:00am to 2:00pm at weekends, a pace set to match Chinese resellers.

Shisanhang Clothes Wholesale Market, in Liwan, targets mid-to-low-end clothing: leather, knitwear, jumpers, suits, shirts, jeans. Its hours are tight in the morning, from 9:00am to 2:00pm: it is best to go early. It nonetheless attracts an international clientele, notably from Russia and Southeast Asia.

Guihuagang Leather Goods Wholesale Market, at 1107 North Jiefang Road in Yuexiu, presents itself as the country's largest high-end leather goods market: bags, wallets, luggage, more than twenty types of items and more than 5,000 brands represented, a figure put forward by manufacturers in the sector and not independently verified. No reliable hours are published: confirming on site remains necessary.

Sanyuanli Leather Product Wholesale Market, near Guangzhou railway station, opens from 9:00am to 6:00pm and covers all ranges of bags, luggage and leather items, with noticeable discounts from a certain volume.

Zhongda Fabric Market, also called Zhongda Textile City, does not fit into a single building: it is an entire district within Haizhu, near Sun Yat-sen University, where tens of thousands of stalls are spread across shopping centres, warehouses and streets, all dedicated to fabric and garment-making accessories. Useful landmark: Zhongda (Sun Yat-sen University) metro station, line 8.

The district generally opens from 10:00am to 7:00pm, with a tip that recurs in every guide consulted: arrive before noon to avoid the afternoon crowds.

Yide Road Toys and Gifts Wholesale Market, straddling Liwan and Yuexiu, presents itself as the city's largest toys and gifts market, with close to 1,900 product categories according to specialised guides, a rough order of magnitude rather than a verified figure. It opens roughly from 9:30am to 5:30pm, metro line 6, Yide Road station, exit A.

Beauty Exchange Center, at 121 West Guangyuan Road in Yuexiu, is presented as Guangzhou's largest cosmetics market; it opens from 9:00am to 5:00pm and brings together cosmetics, personal care products and hair care.

Electronics does not have a single hub in Guangzhou comparable to Huaqiangbei, Shenzhen's electronics district: the offering is spread across several neighbouring shopping centres, concentrated around Xidi'er Road, between the Liwan and Yuexiu districts. For technical electronics sourcing, Shenzhen remains the reference hub, two hours away by train.

Minimum quantities vary from market to market, but a pattern recurs in clothing: a single piece is charged at retail price, the wholesale rate starts at 3 to 5 pieces per model, sizes or colours mixed accepted. For other sectors, the quantity is negotiated stall by stall, and it often drops when the buyer announces upfront a larger overall volume for the whole visit rather than reference by reference.

Payment is made very largely in cash or through Chinese mobile payment, led by WeChat Pay and Alipay; foreign bank cards remain rarely accepted at the oldest markets, such as Yide Road or Sanyuanli. The April 2026 municipal plan aims to extend the acceptance of foreign cards, but until this extension becomes widespread, bringing cash remains the safest precaution.

On negotiation, sourcing guides recommend first asking for the price for a large quantity before specifying the volume actually wanted, which avoids anchoring the discussion on a retail rate. English is not systematically spoken at the stalls: a translation app or local support eases the exchange.
